A special guest (Luiz Carlos Lourenço - Associate Researcher at ICS-ULisboa) presented the Brazilian case to reflect with the students on environmental disasters and sustainability:
Field of observation: Anthropogenic disasters happened from 2015 in Brazil , as a primary exporter mid-income country under social inequalities and fragile infrastructures.
Tipping point: on the eve of coming Age of Decarbonization, its rules and constraints do not prevail over the Classical GDP growth guidelines supported by Corporates and individuals
Critical behavior: Expansion of revenue at any cost for individual interests, but neglected environmental risks.

The project presented by José Luis Monteiro (OIKOS) seeks to promote social justice throughout the tropical fruit supply chain - from the field to the supermarket shelf. Paying a fair price and respecting human and labor rights is the key to success for sustainable production.
The session was therefore dedicated to environmental justice and how its promotion cannot be ignored in order to achieve global sustainability.
