-Introduction to second project, M.2, download Pro Tools intro for tomorrow: https://www.avid.com/pro-tools/intro
Free: essential audio and MIDI tools, 36 plugins, and hundreds of sounds. However, it has limitations on the number of tracks and features compared to the paid versions of Pro Tools.
*For those having playback issues with Reaper, try:
1) Is it a plugin problem? You can also use the Reaper performance meter window (ctrl+alt+p) to see if there's any weird behaviour from any plugin
2) If you close and re-open the project, does the problem still occur?
3) Have you tried to change audio device?
(Go to Options>Preferences>Audio>Device and try changing the audio system)
4) Have you tried raising the audio buffer?
(Go to Options>Preferences>Audio>Device and either go to your audio device preferences or just check the "Request block size" and raise the number to something like 512, 1024 or even 2048)
5) Do you have other programs/apps opened?
6) Also try to check the Window's Task manager or the Reaper performance meter window (ctrl+alt+p) and check if you are using too much ram or cpu
7) Did you simply forgot an fx on the master track or the monitoring fx chain?
Diegetic and non-diegetic sound:
EN:
Diegetic sound is any sound that emanates from the storyworld of the film. The term comes from the word diegesis, which is the evolution of a Greek term that means narration or narrative.
The source of diegetic sound doesn't necessarily need to be seen on screen, as long as the audience understands that it is coming from something within the film.
PT:
Underscore:
EN:
The underscore is the sound or music which is played in the background of any scene in a movie or a show. It is usually designed so that spectators are only indirectly aware of its presence. It may help to set or indicate the mood of a scene and support the narrative without drawing attention to itself.
PT:

An
Archive is a Place: The Wayback Sound Machine in a Rural Archive: (17 min)
EN:
Episode 1: Exploring the
when and the where of an archive, in two parts
In this podcast series, I am exploring the
Binaural/Nodar archive: gathering and sharing recordings from its vast
collection, remixing and re-contextualizing as an art form, with consideration
and empathy to their original context…an outsider invited in to explore,
witness, and process. Then share.
I am exploring how the
concepts and methodologies of how my virtual research and practice tool, the
Wayback Sound Machine, can be used to explore a virtual place, the digital
archive of Binaural/Nodar. The Wayback Sound Machine asks: what can we gather
from sounding the past? It proposes that the relationship between our
soundscape and creative sound design can give us key information about how we
listen, what we listen for, and what that can tell us. It researches various
forms of sound from the past, and designing sound for the past, to consider
what knowledge and applications can be gained from the concept, and so, it is
very much at home in archives, but it does not explore the archives in a linear
or historic manner. It explores the archives as a living and fluid place, a
complex and ever forming, ever changing place where the present can be welcomed
to explore and effect, their changes becoming a part of its constant and
sensible evolution. As Salomé Voegelin states so beautifully, “A sonic
sensibility makes thinkable complex connections and trajectories in time and
space.” (Voegelin, 2010, p. xvi)
“Can an archive be a Place? Somewhere between the
virtual and the actual, a place we can visit, interpret, shape with our
perception and art. Somewhere we can find connection, and be connected, be
changed by an experience, and leave something in return.”
PT:
pensáveis ligações e trajectórias complexas no tempo e no espaço.” (Voegelin,
2010, p. xvi)

“Hacked Circuit” Deborah Stratman (2014):
EN:
A single-shot, choreographed portrait of the Foley process, revealing multiple layers of fabrication and imposition. The circular camera path moves us inside and back out of a Foley stage in Burbank, CA. While portraying sound artists at work, typically invisible support mechanisms of filmmaking are exposed, as are, by extension and quotation, governmental violations of individual privacy.
The scene being foleyed is the final sequence from The Conversation where Gene Hackman's character Harry Caul tears apart his room searching for a 'bug' that he suspects has been covertly planted. The look of Caul's apartment as he tears it apart mirrors the visual chaos of the Foley stage. This mirroring is also evident in the dual portraits of sonic espionage expert Caul and Foley artist Gregg Barbanell, for whom professionalism is marked by an invisibility of craft. And in the doubling produced by Hackman's second appearance as a surveillance hack, twenty-four years later in Enemy of the State.
These filmic quotations ground Hacked Circuit, evoking paranoia, and a sense of conviction alongside a lack of certainty about what is visible. The complication of the seen, the known, the heard and the undetectable provides thematic parallels between the stagecraft of Foley and a pervasive climate of government surveillance.
Foley is the art of reproducing sound effects for cinema in real time. Its purpose is to complement or reproduce sounds created on set at the time of filming (aka field recording). Most films use a combination of foley and field recording. While watching a film clip, the Foley artist produces incidental non-dialogue sounds in sync with the action, e.g. footsteps, keys dropping, fabric rustling, glass breaking, doors closing, etc. The work of a good Foley artist goes undetected by the audience.
PT:
Foley:
EN:
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to films, videos, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. Foley is named after sound-effects artist Jack Foley. Foley sounds are used to enhance the auditory experience of a movie. They can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. Foley can also be used to cover up unwanted sounds captured on the set of a movie during filming, such as overflying airplanes or passing traffic.
Places where the Foley process takes place are often referred to as a Foley stage or Foley studio. A Foley artist recreates the realistic ambient sounds that are portrayed in the film. The props and sets of a film often do not react the same way acoustically as their real-life counterparts, requiring filmmakers to Foley the sounds. The best Foley art is so well integrated into a film that it goes unnoticed by the audience. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene. Without these crucial background noises, movies feel unnaturally quiet and uncomfortable.

-Exponere (13min)
Exposure is to live in a system. Exposure to vibrations. Exposure to vibrating particles. We expose our atmosphere to increased emissions, and it thins and thickens in all the wrong ways, exposing us in turn. We peel back systems and expose. It connotes something missing, a lack of protection. It alludes to a burning‑a radiation, a fire. A structure crumbles. A structure returns. Expōnēre is Latin for exposure. Expōnēre is Part 2, from the project Come Kingdom Come, which was Part 1. This is no longer about a future apocalyptic. Exponere is the present…imperative, and passive…in a language from the past. It is about survival. It's about hanging on, to something, even in limbo.
An uncanny voice tells a bit of the story, in pieces chosen from a random generator…creating, repeating, shifting, recreating. Sounds from archives of various times and places do the same, all under events of catastrophic measure…an earthquake, a tsunami, a fire, an extinction, a meltdown, a cancellation, a silencing, a sun storm. The events are woven into the story and into one Event. Complexity and interconnection, like a composition or ecology. Sound weaves into the image in sync. The character moves in reaction to the sound, affecting the image. The triptych of images of various stages in direct exposure to light morph with time, then pulses again with cicadas in a binaural beat, everything shifting to extremes…one tone to one side continues upwards endlessly, one tone to our right continues down. Our senses work to make sense of this as the story concludes.
….
It wasn’t one event, but a series of events, that sent particles vibrating faster, in strange rapidly changing patterns. Borders and frames, containers and vessels, lines and divisions, vibrated together and blurred.
Exposure is inoculation, but the doses were no longer small enough to be safely taken in. So she went underground, with the insects, and the birds that learned how to fly upside down…though there weren’t many of those. There weren’t many of her, not that survival mattered, as what was still around to define her. Some tapes, some text, some partially developed photos, a lot of time. It all jumbled up together, a pile of history in her bunker to shift through and rearrange each time she decided it was a new day. She had to protect the pile, the Keeper of the pile. She couldn’t risk exposure.
Exposure é viver dentro de um sistema.
Exposição a vibrações. Exposição a partículas vibrantes. Expōnēre é a Parte 2, do projeto Come Kingdom Come, que foi a Parte 1.
